Indian PM Modi to open Atal Bridge in Ahmedabad today

A grand architectural marvel is going to be opened by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (Saturday). The Atal Bridge, purely for pedestrians, will be inaugurated by Modi in Ahmedabad.

The bridge is named after the former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and connects the eastern and western sides of the Sabarmati river in the city.

The iconic footbridge is surely going to attract a lot of tourists.

The iconic footbridge, built by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, has a unique design with fascinating LED lighting, a glimpse of which was shared by PM Modi on Twitter.

The footbridge is 300 metres long and 14 metres wide in the middle and links a flower garden on the western side of the riverfront and the upcoming arts and culture centre on the eastern end.

"Doesn't the Atal Bridge look spectacular!" PM Modi tweeted.

The Atal Bridge has some marvellous LED lighting.

The bridge will definitely attract a lot of tourists, according to reports in sections of the Indian media.

PM Modi will also participate in the Khadi Utsav being organised at the Sabarmati Riverfront today which will see 7,500 khadi artisans from across the state spinning the charkha live at the same time.

Modi will also inaugurate the Smriti Van Memorial in Bhuj on Sunday, which will carry the names of the people who died in the devastating 2001 earthquake.
