The Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, was taken to hospital in Delhi with stomach pain two days after drinking a glass of water from Kali Pen, a sacred river in Sultanpur Lodi.

According to local media, Bhagwant Mann had suffered severe stomach pain at his official residence in Chandigarh on Tuesday evening. From there, he was airlifted and admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi. He underwent medical examinations and is still in hospital.

The authorities said that the government kept his illness a secret, and placed him under heavy guard.

The Punjab Chief Minister's office has not confirmed Bhagwant Mann's hospitalization, with one official even saying that the chief minister was happy and had a busy day Thursday with back-to-back meetings scheduled.

CM Mann on Wednesday had congratulated the Punjab Police and the anti-gangster task force for successfully executing an operation against the gangsters in the state after two Sidhu Moosewala killers were gunned down.

"It is my guarantee to the people of the state that we will not allow anyone to disturb the hard-earned peace in Punjab, and every effort will be made to maintain peace and communal harmony in the state by making it free of gangsters and drug peddlers," the Chief Minister said.
